Everytime you go away.......you take a piece of me(at) with you...

Ok, so this post isn't burger related as such, but it is still about meat ooh matron. Its all about the birth of meatloaf and a few facts and stats (it wouldn't be 7bone without us dealing in FACTS)

Meatloaf actually originated in Europe so although it’s now standard American diner fare and loved up and down the US, it cropped up in Apicius the Roman Gastronome’s cookbook ‘De Re Conquinaria’ in the 5th
century, where it featured chopped meat combined with spices and bread soaked in wine (sounds pretty familiar non?!) unbelievably (ahem) it was named after the singer famed for 'bat out of hell'

Meatloaf arrived in the States by way of the German & Dutch colonists in Pennsylvania in the 17th & 18th century & was termed scrapple. It was traditionally a mush of pork scraps & trimmings combined with cornmeal, wheat flour & spices

Meatloaf won a grammy in 1994

It was a crucial sustenance during the great depression, as it was a way to stretch food budgets for families,
utilizing inexpensive cuts of meat and also using up any leftovers

Meatloaf has 2 daughters Pearl & Amanda

At 7bone we’ll be occasionally running an off the menu meatloaf special ‘bat outta heaven’ so keep your eyes peeled when we’re at a street near you, pic of our meatloaf bun below x

Eat Street, Good meat, Oliver's feet, Car seat...

In the words of Gok Wan Its all about the street food, ok he said confidence, but he meant street food as he used to be a fatty...

Having spent a wonderful sunny afternoon in East London at Jamie Olivers 10th anniversary celebrations of his "fifteen" restaurant/foundation (and for the sake of this blog natch) sampling the UK's best street food (courtesy of the Eat Street organisers) - something we too are extremely passionate about, we are delighted to be wearing our badges (and by badges I mean meat sweats) with pride

If you are wondering what the above is, its a Huge Pole not Marcin Wasilewski the polish centre back but a 1/5kg dog from big apple dogs - if I had one sentence to describe it I'd probably say "Bigger than Ken Monkou (Southampton fan in-joke) with a semi" but in all seriousness (or as serious as we get at 7bone) there's a proper-ish review and a couple more pics (shock horror) below...

Let's start with the 1st bite (always a good place to start) the pop of the natural casing is everything you'd expect from a proper US style dog, the meat is very well seasoned, spiced with paprika and coarsely ground which meant it was amazingly juicy and not mushy. A truly impressive dog! As an aside there was also a nice range of condiments and its a really nice touch with the 'help yourself' kraut and pickles too. Post eating didn't do much for my street cred, as my handlebar was an utter shambles (covered in american mustard and smelling of sausage (ooh matron) If we ever get round to selling dogs out the wagon these boys (and girls) will be the 1st port of call. Follow them on twitter @bigapplehotdogs

I'd put my neck on the line and say they're prob the best dogs in the UK (I'm always happy to be proved wrong, so if YOUR dog is better message me and I'll send you the 7bone taste testing address) and I'll give an impartial evaluation. I thank you.

Next up the Ribman (@theribman on that there twitter) as you'll see (or not as is the case) from the ommitted picture of my rib bun -  I'm absolutely devastated as by the time I finished my big apple dog and joined the queue (we Brits love a queue) the ribman had already sold out!! If its any consolation the smug, shoreditch twat stood next to me with his rib bun looked happy and the rib and bun combo looked amazing. So I consoled myself with 2 pints and a barbecoa pulled pork sandwich (in the pic below) which was pretty damn good too (fennel seed in the pickled cabbage in the slaw was ace) few more pics of the day with dancers and everything. Cap doffed to Mr Oliver, peace love and BBQ the (much heavier) 7bone team x

Great British Burgers - Do's and Don't's...

As one has a stiff upper lip in this fair land, below are some top tips to follow...

Sunday, 17 June 2012

All Holla, it's Rikky Waller - Chief Taster for the day...

Currently working on a fast food/burger themed Rap opera, the original Susan Boyle was chief taster for the day at the 7bone kitchen, testing the new improved Prince Charles is overrated burger (see below results) and a quick chat with Rikster after all the scrupulous analysis of meat, cheese, bread and condiments

7b: To us you'll always be the original Susan Boyle but what have you been up to?

RW: I’ve been writing, producing and directing a fast-food based Rap opera.

7b: Wow sounds interesting can you give us a brief synopsis

RW: Sure its called “12.87 kilometres to IN&Out Burger” it's a Story of a rapping feral cat named Mik Baller trying to work his way up the food chain and eventually win Britain’s Got Talent. Bev Callard is playing the cat and Adam Woodyatt is playing me – a Cheryl-esque style glam panel judge. It’s not based on me, I'm not bitter. Its an underdog story, 8 mile style. Some of the other characters are listed below
Snoop Doggy (Hot) Dog, (Lipton) Ice(d) T(ea), Big (Mac) Pun, Red(sauce)man, M&M’s
I've still got it, I've never lost it and now I’m combining my love of food, corn rows and music. As you can see I'm not bitter, I’ve still got it (breaks in to song) “And Iiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeiiiiiiii will allllllwwwwwaaayyyyssss love yo”....interview is terminated by 7bone

*disclaimer - not all of the above may be factual

You're not wrong Rachel it's certainly not Chicken Cottage...

Welcome to the Dive...

Welcome to the outlet for the 7bone dive team. If you’re looking at this blog you’re clearly a fellow burger lover, and what you’ll see here are reviews, a bit food porn (pictures of quality food, not the American Pie abomination of sex with food – yes, we’re happy to take pictures before we tuck in, as ridiculous as that looks when you’re sat in a restaurant about to chow down & there is some goon taking  a picture of their food – we’re prepared to be that goon for the love of this blog) You’ll also be able to check what music is playing in our kitchen & maybe even a little tip here and there. More importantly you’ll also be able to follow the movements of our newly procured (borrowed) burger trailer – so keep your eyes peeled on where we’ll be!

To give you a bit of background, we’ve spent the last 18 months, eating, testing & trying to come up with the perfect burger. We’re not talking gastro-pub type fodder- you know the type, a place with a previously dishevelled feel & outlook, that has now been covered with a lick of farrow & ball paint serving “sustainable** fish & chips” and the burger option is a dried out excuse of a patty in a multi-seed bun served up on a wooden board with some acidic tomato relish on the side gastro - pub burger = not our cuppa cha bra.

Our concept is pretty simple (and seems to get simpler by the day) we’re going back to basics. Insanely good, locally sourced meat, minced and cooked the right way, in a good local bakers bun and all served juicy – obviously a load more blood, sweat & tears have gone in to it (the creating of, not the patty mix) but we don’t want to be telling all………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………just yet…

stay tuned for our, movements and updates

Peace, Love & BBQ sauce

** We’re all for sustainability & fortunately there is a shit ton of cows, so the future of the burger is looking good
